Book Recommendations on Prophecy from Rev. Susan Snowden

MARY SUMMER RAIN

Mary Summer Rain, an American woman of Shoshoni descent, wrote a series of books about her apprenticeship with a blind Ojibwa (Chippewa) Medicine Woman named No-Eyes. Though sightless, No-Eyes had the gift of Sight, and was a Seer.

Once I started this series, I couldn't put the books down. There's much to recommend --- a well written, compelling narrative, a fascinating subject, a glimpse into another culture, and startling revelations about the future.

I would buy the first four books below at the same time. Since I read them as they were written, I had to wait! The last two books, Earthway and Daybreak are like Paul Harvey's "the rest of the story". I didn't much care for Earthway, but that may be because I was expecting something more akin to the first four books. The Phoenix Files in Daybreak are very useful.

Spirit Song

Mary Summer Rain begins the story of her meeting No-Eyes in the mountains of the Colorado Rockies. She starts her tutelage in the oral tradition of the Peoples.

From the Amazon website: " No Eyes, a blind Chippewa visionary and Many Heart, a dreamwalker, are the teachers in this profound journey through the spirit world for Summer Rain.

This is a wonderful look at the way knowledge has been passed from generation to generation with strong emphasis on what is good and what might trick the spirituality-seeking novice into taking a wrong path.

Positive life is strengthened by the knowledge of the shaman, natural medicine, awareness of Mother Earth and the putting aside the unnecessary quest for things that don't matter, in order to enrich your soul."

Phoenix Rising: No-Eyes' Vision of the Changes to Come

From the Amazon website: "Mary Summer Rain's relationship with the old and wise Indian shaman No-Eyes, introduced in Spirit Song, continues, as she reveals to Mary her compelling visions of the future.

From the setting in the simple mountain cabin, No-Eyes takes her on a sometimes frightening journey through time, viewing the upheavals to come through a unique perspective, on timeless paths that few have ever traveled.

It's a book that is already a classic for its philosophical insight and the powerful lyricism of the author's portrayal of the beautiful mountains of Colorado. And, as always, the unique relationship between teacher and student is delightfully rendered."

Dreamwalker

From the Amazon website: "What is a Dreamwalker? They are the rare few who, as Mary Summer Rain describes them, are "led by the spirit,' have "shed the yoke of desire and self-want," and have discarded the need for material gain and all evidence of negative thought.

Without any personal goals, they travel the path of knowledge and go where the spirit of truth leads them. Brian Many Heart, also a student of No-Eyes, returns to No-Eyes' cabin in the Colorado mountains to teach Mary Summer Rain the "magic" and power of the Dreamwalker.

Together, under No-Eyes' close scrutiny, they explore the realms of the spirit, and deal with Summer Rain's many unanswered questions about her identity and her resistance to what is referred to as her "spiritual obligation" to deal with wayward spirits (which she would explore later in Phantoms Afoot)".

Phantoms Afoot

From the Amazon website: "This is the fourth book in the "No-Eyes" series, and in many ways the most extraordinary of the series. After having been taught to Dreamwalk by Brian Many Heart (as chronicled in Dreamwalker), Mary Summer Rain discovers that she must use the power she has fiercely resisted.

No-Eyes convinces her that it is an important part of her destiny. With the help of her husband, she embarks on a series of confrontations with the earthbound and sometimes dangerous, spirits who inhabit the dimensions between planes."

Earthway

From the Amazon website: "Mary Rain was the last apprentice to the reowned Chippewa teacher and visionary, No-Eyes. Daughter of a tribal shaman, No-Eyes based her teachings on her heritage and the many lessons of her long life.

A veritable encyclopedia of rare knowledge that shows us how our modern lives can be enriched and healed with this ancient wisdom, Earthway is a working handbook that reveals how we were intended to live with nature and with each other.

A practical guide that covers all aspects of our minds, bodies, and spirits including: the weather, the sun, the moon, and planets, diet, your personal lifestyle, natural medicines, gateway healing, the toxin of negative attitudes, the secret dream interpretation."

Daybreak

From the Amazon website: "The sixth book of Mary Summer Rain's extraordinary "No-Eyes" series, answers questions culled from thousands of letters from her readers.

Daybreak delves into the implications of No-Eyes' teachings, into realms of prophecy, Native American history, metaphysics, and just plain common sense. Expanding upon the Earthways data base, there is even an extensive dream dictionary.

Finally, Daybreak includes The Phoenix Files which is a comprehensive listing of nuclear facilities, military installations, toxic waste dumps, oil refineries, seismic risk zones, geothermal regions, natural disaster hazard zones, as well as a suggested pole shift realignment configuration."

JOHN G. NEIHARDT

Black Elk Speaks

In the summer of 1930, researcher John G. Neihart, studying the Native American Ghost Dance Movement, met Nicholas Black Elk, an Ogala Holy Man, Healer, and Elder of the Lakota Nation, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

This book grew out of their conversations, as Black Elk shared his experiences at the Battle of the Little Big Horn and the Wounded Knee Massacre. Black Elk also gifts Neihart with his visions for the future, as a result of the bloody history he witnessed and the rituals he performed as a medicine man.
